10 Wedding Reception Rituals We Wish Would Die...
Many guests experience a deep sense of anxiety when attending wedding receptions. They have good reason. Besides having to wear shiny, uncomfortable shoes and making small talk with strangers, they’ll have to brave a gauntlet of confusing rituals both eye-rollingly corny and socially awkward, from the de-gartering of the bride to the cheesy three-hour photo montage of the happy couple...

Veil Dance
More Ukrainian wedding excitement!
This tradition takes place toward the end of the wedding reception. The Bride is seated on a chair in the middle of the dance floor. Her mother (or alternate) takes the white veil off her daughter’s head, and replaces it with a white flowered head scarf (Babushka). The veil is then passed around, and worn by singles ladies who takes turns to dance with the...

Ukrainian Catholic Crowning Rite
This will be part of our wedding ceremony. Learning learning learning.
This is the most solemn moment of the wedding service. Crowns, or wreaths of myrtle or periwinkle, are placed on the heads of the couple, symbolizing that both the husband and wife reign over the newly-established family with love, peace, and harmony.

Always be prepared!
As a Brownie leader, I love this Girl Scout themed wedding shower. Imagine getting the guests to design their own wedding related merit badges.

Ring Warming Ceremony
With a ring warming ceremony, the rings are passed guest-to-guest and each guest holds the rings and blesses them before the bride and groom exchange rings.
Perhaps passing the ring around to all the guests would take too long, but maybe just the wedding party and parents?
Or
Have the guests come to the rings instead and bless them as they come into the church prior to taking their seat.

Stealing ideas from reality TV
I HATE the idea of giving cheap dollar store picture frames as a wedding favour but I LOVE the idea of researching each guest’s name. Maybe more suitable for a shower or even a birthday party.
Includes the meaning of the name, famous people with the same name etc.
These guests seem to like it - but really who needs a hot pink, plastic, dollar store picture frame?

Frozen flower centrepieces
Hey Melinda- don’t know if you have seen them, but Lee Valley has some really great star shaped molds for frozen centrepieces- they are shaped like stars, and are hollowed in the middle so you can insert a candle. We do them at Christmas with holly leaves and berries, with pine boughs

Lessons Learned from Reality TV: Part 6
I hate wedding slide shows.
Hate them.
But I love photos, go figure.
There is something about slide shows or cheesy videos that make me want to stick a fork in my eye. A really hot, sharp, rusty fork.
But…
While wasting my Sunday away watching mindless TV (procrastinating), I came across this old-timely film that a couple had made for their reception.
Gem.
I loved it.

A Thousand Paper Cranes
Until I started reading wedding blogs, I had always thought folding 1000 paper cranes was purely about world peace. I remember as a child reading the story Sadako, the young Japanese girl who lived in Hiroshima at the time of the atomic bomb and ended up developing cancer 9 years later. Sadako tried to fold 1000 paper cranes before she died. The messages I took from that story were about peace...

Lessons Learned from Reality TV: Party 5
Not sure if I would want to get my future told at a wedding of all places - a little on the creepy side don’t you think?
It did go with the bride’s Friday the 13th theme, which I hated (along with Christmas, Halloween themes). Actually other than colour scheme, I hate themes.

Tasty Tasty Flowers
Looking at some interesting ways to incorporate flowers outside of the typical centrepieces.
Edible flowers anyone?
I think they are absolutely beautiful.

Progress? Yep, progress!
Date picked? - check
Wedding party picked? - check
Ceremony location booked? - check
Reception venue booked? - check, check
Photographer booked? - check
Engagement party, planned and executed? - double check
Band booked for the reception? - check
Wedding dress ordered? - check-o-rama
Now I just sit back and relax and let Dave plan the rest; that’s how it works right?
Wedding shoe shopping was totally uneventful!

Plant this handmade seed paper, water daily and wildflowers will grow.
Although the designs aren’t really my style - this paper is pretty freakin’ cool.

The Ugly Bridesmaid Dress: A sure fired way to...
When picking out bridesmaid dresses, ask yourself these questions.
Is this a dress that you would want to wear? If not, put it back on the rack.
Does the colour make you want to puke? Puking is NOT a positive sign.
Did you just tell your bridesmaids that it’s a dress that they can wear again? Is that really true? Be honest.
Is it really really expensive?
When ugly dresses happen to...

Throw out those tired old wedding guest...
You heard me! Throw them out.
We have already picked our guest book alternative (shhh it’s a secret) but here are some other ideas I stumbled across in my journey to find the perfect guest book.
Patch Work Quilt Guest Book
Guests sign patches of fabric that are sewn into a quilt after the big day.
The Typed Letter
Fun and interactive, guests type out a line or two to wish you well....

Delicious Delicious Parasite Cake
This cake recently appeared in the Knot wedding magazine and on their website (it’s a knot pick, in fact)
It is suppose to be classic, elegant and have a 1930s feel, BUT it reminds me of this…
Or maybe even this…
I guess the lucky person who finds the tapeworm can then eat as much cake as they want without getting fat. Well that’s a fun party game!
